how the Quest Wheel works
Six ways to adventure, 200 possible quests, and one spinning excuse to stop comparing options.
The wheel chooses a lane. Then it chooses a real quest that belongs there.
The Quest Wheel is for the moment when choosing has become the least interesting activity available. It does not invent filler or send you outside in a thunderstorm on purpose. It uses the same 200 quests as the rest of CoolSideQuests, first choosing one of six broad moods and then randomly choosing an eligible quest.
what happens when you press spin
First, the wheel randomly selects one of its six equal sections. Second, CoolSideQuests checks the quest database for every quest matching that section. Third, it randomly chooses one of those eligible quests and shows the original title and description. The status beneath the result tells you how many quests were eligible in the winning category.
The animation is the dramatic version of that process. If your device requests reduced motion, the wheel skips the long spin and reveals the result almost immediately. Either way, the selection rules are the same.
what the six wheel sections mean
A quest can qualify for several sections. A free outdoor activity might appear after Freebie or Get Outside, while Wild Card can reach anything. The wheel chooses a fresh category and result every time you spin.
is the result actually random?
Yes. The page uses the browser's secure random-number feature when it is available, with a standard random fallback for older environments. It does not quietly favour sponsored quests, the newest quest, or the quest somebody decided needed more attention.
Random does not mean equally likely across all 200 on every spin. Each of the six sections has the same chance to win, but categories contain different numbers of eligible quests. Wild Card includes all 200; Quick One includes only 30-minute quests. Once a section wins, every eligible quest in that section has the same chance inside that draw.
what “I'm doing this” saves
Pressing I'm Doing This! records the selected quest as your current wheel commitment on that device and changes the button to Locked In. It does not mark the quest complete. That distinction matters: agreeing to watch the sunrise is not the same achievement as getting out of bed and seeing it.
No account is required. The commitment stays in local browser storage, which means it does not follow you to another device and may disappear if you clear that site's stored data. If the result genuinely cannot work, use Nah… Spin Again. If it merely feels less convenient than scrolling, that may be the wheel doing its job.
real quests behind the wheel
The wheel never invents a title to fit its landing. It selects an existing quest with its original description. Quick One might reveal a small skill, Get Outside can hand you a trail, and Wild Card could send the group toward a game night.
Learn Basic Origami
start with a crane or a boat. your first one will look nothing like the picture. the fold that finally works feels weirdly good.
open the full quest →Nature Trail Walk
no destination. just see where the trail actually goes.
open the full quest →Board Game Night
one game, no phones, may the pettiest player win.
open the full quest →Quest Wheel or Find a Quest?
Use Find a Quest when you know your real constraints. It lets you choose time, budget, energy, and setting. Use the wheel when specifying more preferences has become another form of indecision. The finder respects the shape of your day; the wheel interrupts overthinking.
ready to let it decide?
The wheel is loaded from the real quest list and waiting on the homepage.
